TROJAK DIAMOND WAY BUDDHIST CENTRE
(MEDITATION AND RETREAT CENTRE)
The main Moravian mediation and retreat centre in the Karma Kagyu Lineage of the Diamond Way Buddhism, called Trojak, was purchased by the Nydahl Endowment Fund in 2006. This was a common wish of most of the town meditation centres. Finally, we found a house which met our requirements and the joint activity aimed at creating a place for the development of Diamond Way Buddhism could start.
The property – a house with land – is located about ten minutes from a road linking Bystrice pod Hostynem and Vsetin. A steep field path climbs a hillside to an altitude of 600 m above sea level, opening a beautiful view to all sides. A distant peak of Radhost and Vsetinske vrchy rise on one side and the foothills of the Hostynske vrchy on the other side. Our centre – a house with a barn and over 5 hectares of land – is one hundred metres below the peak. The house is surrounded by an orchard and a garden with a small pond. The remaining land is a meadow, currently used for agricultural purposes.
The house was built approximately one hundred years ago. In 2008 and 2009, the house was repaired and furnished (interiors). On the ground floor of the house, there is a cellar, a kitchen, a social room, a bathroom, two toilets, a boiler room and one guest room. The meditation room (gompa) and a bedroom are on the first floor. There is also a barn, a woodshed and a straw-and-wood meditation hut in the orchard.
For the future, a reconstruction is planned as well as construction of new rooms to accommodate for the growing interest of town centre members in using this place. In particular, a bigger meditation room and facilities are planned for meditators and residents.
Activity
Like in any other Diamond Way centre, we organize weekends with travelling teachers and meditations. The project also envisages construction of retreat huts.
