TENOVICE DIAMOND WAY BUDDHIST CENTRE
(MEDITATION AND RETREAT CENTRE))
Buddhism, which is presented mainly by Lama Ole Nydahl in the West, is interesting especially to so-called lay practitioners. They have their work, partners and families, but also practice the Diamond Way Buddhist methods and apply the experience acquired by regular meditation in their everyday lives. When they have some time and suitable conditions, they may come for several days or just a weekend to Tenovice – a retreat centre – where there is usually more time and tranquillity for meditation than during a workweek.
The Tenovice centre is a great place for meditation and becomes more and more interesting thanks to the teachers of our lineage who come to impart precious transmissions of the Diamond Way of Tibetan Buddhism. Lama Ole Nydahl comes to Tenovice for a couple of days every year. In summer 2008, one of the most important representatives of the Karma Kagyu School – Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche – came as well. Tenovice also welcomed the head of our lineage – the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, and his father, Mipham Rinpoche, who is an important representative of the Nyingma School.
The centre is open all year round, but most practicing Buddhists come on weekends. They spend their time practising, individually or in groups. The centre functions similarly to other town centres. Sometimes a meal is prepared for everybody, sometimes everyone needs to take care of him or herself. Everybody helps with cleaning and tidying up and if necessary also with more demanding maintenance of the house and the premises.
The centre is run by the Tenovice team; anyone with a surplus and a will to help can become its member.
