BRNO DIAMOND WAY BUDDHIST CENTRE
DIAMOND WAY HOUSE
In April 2011, Lama Ole Nydahl inaugurated the new Brno Diamond Way Buddhist Centre. The “Diamond Way House” has two storeys of an area of 750 sq. m. and can accommodate up to two hundred visitors. In addition to a big meditation room and social area, there is a baby room, an office, a kitchen, a shop and a library. The centre is open to the public on an everyday basis, organizes guided meditations, lectures, meditation weekends, open door days, centre meetings and other events.
The Brno meditation group emerged in 1998 and rented a former kindergarten in the Trtilkova Street one year later. In 2003, the municipality of Brno sold the former kindergarten with land to the Nydahl Endowment Fund. Two years later, a reconstruction plan appeared as the original building was not sufficient any more due to the growing number of visitors. The author of the final architectonic design of the new house was Martin Sladký, in co-operation with Radek Hála. The construction of the Diamond Way House took place from 2009 to 2011 and was supported by the town district of Brno-sever and had a partnership of the South Moravian Region. The project realization was done under the association of Společnost Diamantové cesty, o. s., in co-operation with the Nydahl Endowment Fund.
